You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.
Deuteronomy 13:4 ESV
15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 14:15 ESV
I generally have two sources for my morning quiet times. One is the Verse of the Day from biblegateway.com and the other is from Daily Strength for Daily Needs. It is interesting these two verses should pop up today as part of my morning devotions.
Both verses speak of service to the Lord and that has been a point of prayer for me these past several days. For the past three years, I have been fairly involved with Ridgecrest's homeless ministry. From serving weekly meals to working with individuals on a variety of needs, I have spend many hours in service to God by helping "the least of these". However, at the current time, the homeless ministry with which I worked is no longer functioning.
While these past few weeks of not having any ministry commitments has been relaxing, my spirit is becoming restless. Both verses today speak of service. To act. To do. To work.
Please pray that God will reveal service opportunities to me and that I will have the wisdom to move in the direction in which He is leading.
